Belarus wins first medal in Portugal at U-23 European Championships
The first day of the U-23 Track Cycling European Championships in Anadia turned out successful for the Belarus national team, which won the silver medal in women team pursuit.
Volha Masiukovich, Marina Shmayankova, Ina Savenka and Polina Pivovarova surprised everyone in qualifications having finished second and advanced to the main final, where Belarus raced against Russia. The Russian team, which largely dominated qualifications, was faster in the final as well. However the second place for Belarus can be considered as a success.
The junior men team participated in the team pursuit. The quartet of Yauheni Karaliok, Denis Chernogortsev, Anton Ivashkin and Aliaksei Piashkin raced half distance with the second time, but didn’t manage to maintain the rhythm and finished eighth.
Aleh Ahyievich and Roman Tsishkou in the U-23 individual pursuit were seventh and eleventh respectively. Anna Gurik and Nadzeya Svirkova finished 14th and 16th in sprint qualifications.
